This document is PHB's working framework for health & safety policy.
Statement of intent
Pro Hoops Blueprint is committed to providing a safe delivery environment for participants, staff and partner organisation personnel, and to complying with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and related regulations so far as they apply to our activities.
Risk assessment
- A written risk assessment is completed for each venue and programme before delivery begins.
- Dynamic risk assessment is carried out by the lead coach at the start of every session.
- Risk assessments are shared with the commissioning organisation on request.
- Standard risk assessment templates in use.
Venue and equipment
- Playing surface, lighting, obstructions, fire exits and access routes are checked before each session.
- Portable equipment is visually inspected before use and withdrawn if defective.
- Balls, cones, bibs and portable hoops are maintained and stored appropriately.
Staffing and ratios
- Coach-to-participant ratios are agreed with the commissioning organisation before delivery. Standard ratios applied by PHB: 1:10 with at least 2 adults present.
- First aid provision on site: First Aid Kit.
- Where sessions take place on a partner site, the partner's site-specific procedures take precedence and are briefed to PHB staff.
Incidents, injuries and near misses
All incidents, accidents and near misses are recorded and reported to the commissioning organisation. Reportable incidents are escalated in line with RIDDOR where applicable. See also the Emergency & Accident Procedures page.
Review and contact
This document is reviewed at least annually, or sooner following an incident, a change in legislation, or a change in PHB's delivery. Date of last review: 7th September 2026. Date of next review: 7th September 2027.
